Trump raves about 'beautiful' Queen, makes confusing UK comment
President Trump raved about 92-year-old Queen Elizabethâs beauty in a sprawling new interview from his trip to the UK â" but seemed confused about exactly what the United Kingdom is.
âThe Queen is terrific. She is so sharp, so wise, so beautiful. Up close, you see sheâs so beautiful. Sheâs a very special person⦠when I say beautiful â" inside and out. That is a beautiful woman,â Trump told Piers Morgan in an interview with the Daily Mail.
At another point in the interview, he began musing on the various names for her realms.
âYou have different names â" you can say âEngland,â you can say âUK,â You can say âUnited Kingdomâ so many different â" you know you have, you have so many different names â" Great Britain,â Trump told Piers Morgan in a wide-ranging interview for UKâs Daily Mail.
âWhich one do you prefer? Great Britain? You understand what Iâm saying?â
When Morgan pointed out that Great Britain and the United Kingdom arenât exactly the same thing â" the former is made up of England, Scotland and Wales and the latter is those three countries plus Northern Ireland â" Trump replied: âRight, yeah. You know I know but a lot of people donât know that. But you have lots of different names.â
Trump made the perplexing comment as he discussed granting Prime Minister Theresa May an âoptionâ to give the UK an advantage over the European Union in Brexit talks â" but didnât say what the option was.
âWe would make a great deal with the United Kingdom because they have product that we like,â Trump said. âI mean they have a lot of great products.â
He also revealed that the Queen called Brexit âcomplexâ â" although the royal family famously do not express any political views or even vote.
âShe said itâs a very â" and sheâs right â" itâs a ver y complex problem, I think nobody had any idea how complex that was going to be,â Trump said.
âEveryone thought it was going to be âOh itâs simple, we join or donât join, or letâs see what happens.'â
When asked whether the monarch liked him, he said: âI donât want to speak for her, but I can tell you I like her. So that usually helps.â
Trumpâs UK visit had been marked by mass protests in London on Friday, but Trump insisted many of the protesters were actually there to support him.
âSome of them are protesting in my favor, you know that?â There are many many protests in my favor,â he said.
The interview took place aboard Air Force One, where Morgan revealed that Trump has a stash of personalized M&M boxes, featuring his signature and the presidential seal.Source: Google News United Kingdom | Netizen 24 United Kingdom
