Why did Kim Kardashian go to The White House and how does she know Alice Marie Johnson?

If you rubbed your eyes when you saw pictures of Kim Kardashian stood in The White House with Donald Trump this morning, you’re not seeing things.

The reality star and mum of three visited The White House on Wednesday afternoon to speak with Donald Trump.

They caught up to discuss the case of US prisoner Alice Marie Johnson.

But why did Kim go to the White House and how does she know Alice Marie?

Kim was invited to The White House by Trump’s son in law Jared Kushner to talk about prison reform with Trump and the case of Alice Marie Johnson â€" a 63-year-old grandmother who is serving a life sentence for a first-time non-violent drug offence.

Kushner, who is a senior White House advisor, has prioritised prison reform and has been having ‘back-channel talks’ with Kim for months, according to reports .

It’s the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star’s mission for Alice to be pardoned for her wrongdoing.

While it’s not known how their meeting went and what the outcome will be, they both tweeted their thanks to each other, along with a picture of Kim stood behind the desk in the oval office, later on in the day.

Kim wrote: ‘I would like to thank President Trump for his time this afternoon. It is our hope that the President will grant clemency to Ms. Alice Marie Johnson who is serving a life sentence for a first-time, non-violent drug offense.’

She added: ‘We are optimistic about Ms. Johnson’s future and hopeful that she -and so many like her-will get a second chance at life.’

While Donald wrote: ‘Great meeting with @KimKardashian today, talked about prison reform and sentencing.’

Kim became involved in Alice Marie’s case when she saw her great-granddaughter Mic tweet a video explaining her story in October l ast year.

According to the Associated Press, Johnson helped lead a multimillion-dollar cocaine ring from 1991 to 1994.

As there is no parole in the federal system, Alice is not eligible for it and has been in prison so far for more than 20 years after being sentenced in 1996.

When Kim saw her story, she shared the video herself, commenting: ‘This is so unfair…’.

Kim is understood to have then contacted Mic’s lawyer to try to help with the case and has spoken with Johnson herself.

However, if Trump were to grant Alice clemency, it would go against his approach to drugs so far.

Either way, fans of Kim are in utter shock, with many taking to Twitter to air their surprise, admitting they are finding it hard to accept Kim might know a thing or two about prison reform.

Kim’s husband Kanye West has drawn criticism for his support of the President, having recently been pictured wearing a Make America Great Again hat.

He also went on a Twitter rant sharing his love for the President.

‘He is my brother,’ he tweeted. ‘I love everyone. I don’t agree with everything anyone does.

‘That’s what makes us individuals. And we have the right to independent thought.’

Kanye received a huge flurry of backlash for his 80-tweet strong rant and decision to wear MAGA hat in public, garnering criticisms from the likes of Snoop Dogg and John Legend.

Snoop wrote: ‘That’s mighty white of u Kanye. !N**** if u don’t snap out of it Get out part 2.’

Kanye shocked with his lengthy rant on his political leanings, declaring his love for Donald Trump and insisting he has the right to independent thought.

He wrote: ‘You don’t have to agree with trump [sic] but the mob can’t make me not love him. We are both dragon energy. He is my brother. I love everyone. I don’t agree with every thing anyone does. That’s what makes us individuals. And we have the right to independent thought.

‘If your friend jumps off the bridge you don’t have to do the same. Ye being Ye is a fight for you to be you. For people in my life the idea of Trump is pretty much a 50 50 split but I don’t tell a Hillary supporter not to support Hillary I love Hillary too.’
