Who is Diogo Dalot? Everything you need to know about starlet set to become Man United's first summer signing

If you've played Football Manager 18 at any point over the past few months you'll more than likely have heard of Diogo Dalot.

The 19-year-old Porto right-back starts out as a promising defender who, after a few seasons, transforms into Dani Alves.

Manchester United will be hoping his real-life counterpart can do exactly this, and it seems Jose Mourinho is confident he can, because the Portuguese is ready to make the youngster his first summer signing.

The teenager will set the Old Trafford club back €20million (£17.4million), which is Dalot's release clause, but he is not likely to take Antonio Valencia's position over night.

So what can Manchester United fans expect from Dalot?

Dalot made just seven appearances for Porto last season, but caught Mourinho's eye nonetheless.

He broke into the first team in February and is now a Portuguese Under-21 international. He also played in Porto's Champions League last-16 tie against Liverpool at Anfield in March.

The youngster would be a long-term successor to Valencia - should everything go to plan - so Red Devils fans can expect cameo appearances from the young Portuguese as he learns from the Ecuadorian next season.

But what about his ability - what does he bring?

The short answer is, a lot.

To begin with he's very much a modern full-back; he's quick, tall, physical, comfortable on the ball and looks to get forward, down the wing with the ball attached to his feet - think Hector Bellerin.

But he's also old school in regards to what many expect from a modern right-back.

He's defensively sound, tough in a tackle, and reads the game brilliantly.

Dalot also has an incredibly cool head, and is capable of playing the ball out from the back either by making a long-distance pass or bringing it forward himself.

Perhaps most impressively though is his ability to press and win the ball back high up the pitch before quickly turning a defensive transition into attack.

He can also put in a pretty good cross, and will likely fill Valencia's shoes with ease.
