Donald Trump denies affair with porn star amid claims she was paid $130000 to stay silent

Donald Trump’s lawyer has denied that the president had an affair with an adult film star 12 years ago, according to reports.

It comes after the Wall Street Journal reported that long-standing Trump Organisation attorney Michael Cohen oversaw a $130,000 payment to prevent the woman from discussing the alleged encounter.

Mr Cohen failed to address the payment allegation in a statement to the newspaper, but denied that the US leader had an affair with Stephanie Clifford in 2006 â€" the year after he married his wife Melania.

Ms Clifford, whose stage name is Stormy Daniels, allegedly denied claims she received “hush money”, branding the reports “completely false”.

The same statement, seen by the Journal, denied that Mr Trump and Ms Clifford, who performs under the name Stormy Daniels, had a “sexual and/or romantic affair”.

The US publication based its report on interviews with “people familiar with the matter”. It did not claim to have seen any documents substantiating the agreement.

An attorney for Ms Clifford sent a full copy of Ms Clifford’s statement denying the affair to BuzzFeed, dated January 10.

In the final days of the US presidential race, Ms Clifford had rep ortedly discussed disclosing an alleged affair with Mr Trump with Good Morning America.

But she did not appear on the programme and a Trump campaign spokesperson at the time denied that the two had a sexual encounter.

Following the latest reports, a White House official told the Guardian newspaper: “These are old, recycled reports, which were published and strongly denied prior to the election.”
