Philip Hammond admits Cabinet yet to decide what it wants UK's post-Brexit relationship with EU to look like
Theresa Mayâs Cabinet has still not decided what it wants the UKâs post-Brexit relationship with the European Union to look like, Philip Hammond has admitted.
The Chancellor said senior ministers had only had âgeneral discussionsâ about the post-Brexit âend stateâ as he insisted it would be âprematureâ to hammer out the Governmentâs desired destination before the EU green lights trade talks.
Mr Hammond also suggested that the UK would pay the so-called Brexit bill regardless of whether or not the Government was able to agree to a trade deal with Brussels.
He said it would be âinconceivableâ that Britain would walk away without meeting its obligations.
Mr Hammondâs apparent belief that the UK would settle its accounts with the EU even if future trading arrangements are not agreed appeared to put hi m at odds with Downing Street.Source: Google News
