Met Office snow forecast update: this is why it could feel as cold as -7C on Friday
It will feel well below freezing on Friday (December 8), according to the Met Office.
Winds described as "bitterly cold" will leave the UK shivering throughout the day.
And that windy environment will have a significant affect on the temperature.
Despite air temperatures sitting just above freezing, the Met Office warn it will feel more like -7 degrees Celsius in parts of the UK.
The temperature is likely to feel no warmer than freezing across Somerset on Friday and may even dip lower to -2 towards the north and east.
The forecasters tweeted on Thursday (December 7): "Bitterly cold winds will affect the whole of the UK through Friday - actual temperatures won't be far of [sic] freezing but it will feel like it is closer to -7 ÂºC in places! Stay #weatheraware."
Storm Caroline affected large parts of Scotland on Thursday (December 7), with video footage showing choppy waters and strong winds (see above).
The winds in Scotland have been described as gale force by the Met Office.
On Thursday, local councils and Highways England, along with fire services an d health authorities were urging people to prepare for the cold snap and look out for relatives and neighbours who may be affected by the cold spell.
What about the snow? Will we see it in Somerset?
Somerset Live put together a town by town guide to whether or not it will snow in Somerset and the surrounding areas on Friday (December 8).
Met Office forecasters say "west is best" if you're hoping for snow at the end of the week but in reality, you'll need to be further north than our part of the world to be confident of a significant fall.
Those hoping for a dusting of the white stuff do have some chance in Somerset though.
A Met Office forecaster says it will be "patchy" in our part of the world - so don't expect too much - but there might be snow on hills and moors.
Earlier today a forecast suggested the Mendip town of Shepton Mallet was the most likely to see snowfall on Friday morning (Decem ber 8).
Add a chance of snow to biting cold winds and one thing is for sure - you'll need to wrap up warm for the last day of the working week.
Looking ahead to the weekend Saturday is likely to bring sunny spells but Arctic air could lead to "significant snow" for some in the West of the UK on Sunday.
