Cops save girl, 4, seen being abused in sick Dark Web clips, after victim's mum turns man over to police
A man has been arrested after police released photos of a four-year-old girl spotted in a child abuse video on the Dark Web.
The girlâs mother and grandparents alerted police hours after German authorities took the unusual step of sharing images of the young victim in a last ditch attempt to identify her.
Police said she was subjected to âserious sexual abuseâ between October last year and July this year
Vile pictures of her suffering were uploaded to the Dark Web by her tormentor, which were reportedly so horrific they left long-serving officers seriously distressed.
Chief prosecutor Georg Ungefuk from the Central Office for Combating Cyber Crime said: â(The man arrested) is a German citizen and is being questioned.
"The girl is also German and four years old.
âHe was arrested in an apartment by state police.â
According to the Bild newspaper the arrest took place in Lower Saxony just hours after photos of the female victim were released yesterday.
Mr Ungefuk took the decision to release the images of the girl on a Monday stating: "This is the last measure to identify the perpetrator.
"We only fell back on this as all other possibilities have not led to finding out who she is.
"We assume that the child is further exposed to the perpetrator's access.
"She is now in the care of child psychiatrists."
The girl is described as having a round chin and snub nose, with her straight hair in a pony tail.
Bundeskriminalamt (BKA), the German Federal Police Offic e, previously said in a statement: "The picture and video recordings of the sexual abuse of the child were discovered for the first time in July 2017 on a child pornography platform in the so-called dark net.
"The BKA assume that the victim is still exposed to the access of the unidentified suspect, so continued sexual abuse of the child can not be ruled out.
"The Generalstaatsanwaltschaft Frankfurt am Main (Frankfurt Attorney General) and the BKA hope to identify with the support of the public the unknown victim and the unknown suspects, as well as to be able to end ongoing sexual abuse."

What is the dark web?
The dark web is a section of the internet where people can contact one another anonymously a nd without fear of being monitored.
Because of this many criminals use it to sell illegal drugs, chemicals, weapons, child abuse images and even offer assassination services. Silk Road â" the most notorious dark net online market â" was closed down by the FBI in 2013.
Its founder Ross Ulbricht was convicted of seven charges including drug trafficking, criminal enterprise, aiding and abetting the distribution of drugs over the internet, computer hacking and money laundering. He was sentenced to life.
Many transactions that take place on the dark web involve online currencies, such as Bitcoins.
Because it is digital â" and not stored in banks like conventional money â" it is very difficult to trace.
This means criminals use it for money-laundering purposes, and with one Bitcoin worth £3,500 it has a very high value.
Hidden websites first b egan appearing on the dark web around 2004.
In recent years their popularity has increased dramatically, with £1billion spent on Silk Road between 2011 and 2013.
These sites cannot be accessed by traditional browsers such as Internet Explorer, Chrome, Safari and Firefox.
Instead, users wanting to view material on the dark web need to download extra software.
This was initially developed by the US military to allow secret communication but is now freely available.
When someone searches the dark web, the information is bounced through other computers across the globe.
This keeps both the location of the searcher and the server anonymous.Source: Google News
